From New York to North Carolina: Right-of-Way Overhaul
MJP Energy Services successfully completed a demanding right-of-way maintenance project in Clayton, North Carolina. The project, which spanned ten days in early June 2024, required a dedicated crew to travel from the company’s headquarters in Olean, New York, to address the specific needs of the terrain and vegetation in the piedmont region for 38 miles of right of way.
The project presented several challenges, including varied terrain, mechanical issues and the need to work around existing agricultural operations. However, the MJP Energy Services team demonstrated exceptional skill, adaptability and perseverance in overcoming these obstacles.
Project Overview
The primary objective of the project was to clear and maintain a designated right-of-way corridor, ensuring safe and unobstructed access to essential pipeline infrastructure. Our expert crew employed a combination of mowing and weed whacking techniques to effectively manage vegetation growth along the route.
Day-to-Day Operations
- Day 1: The team mobilized from Olean, New York, to Raleigh, North Carolina.
- Day 2: The project commenced with a safety briefing followed by equipment setup and initial mowing operations. The crew faced minor equipment issues that impacted productivity.
- Day 3: Equipment repairs and maintenance took priority in the morning, with weed whacking crews focusing on marker and fence areas. Afternoon operations involved continued mowing.
- Day 4: The team navigated around farmland to avoid damaging crops, concentrating on areas between fields. Despite the detour, significant progress was made in mowing.
- Day 5: The crew divided into two groups to complete a section from the previous day while simultaneously starting a new section. The day concluded with equipment cleaning and refueling.
- Day 6: Operations focused on mowing and weed whacking through farmland towards a gate valve setting. Equipment was secured for the weekend.
- Day 7: The crew resumed work with another safety briefing and continued mowing towards the next valve setting. The challenging terrain required careful navigation around creeks and a highway.
- Day 8: Progress was hindered by a river crossing, forcing the crew to detour and backtrack to access the right-of-way. Despite the challenges, the team completed a significant portion of the mowing.
- Day 9: The final day of mowing was completed, followed by equipment cleaning and preparation for transport.
- Day 10: The crew returned to Olean, New York, concluding the project.
