Tank Re-Coating in the Fall

For us, the weather always plays a part in decision making, sometimes delaying the project or forcing the crew to work quickly and efficiently before it changes. That is why we are especially proud of this 32’ tall tank project completed in the fall of 2025.

The Changing Conditions

Our team dealt with everything autumn could throw at them: rain, morning dew, and cooler temperatures, all making it a challenge to find the window of opportunity to apply coatings.

Projects that we undertake during changing weather present an especially demanding task; luckily, our experienced crews know how to work around many shifting conditions.

The Painting Process

To start from a clean sheet, the team used a 4000-psi high pressure water blast to remove loose paint and contaminants. This prepares the surface for the next steps and ensures that the coatings will hold best.

The tank was then covered with one coat of high-solids polyamide epoxy mastic to provide heavy-duty protection and corrosion control. It was then followed by one coat high-solids polyurethane gloss finish for color and gloss retention.

The Maneuvering

While the shape of the tank was not as intricate as some of the other projects we completed in the past, it still came with its challenges. A tube with a 223’ circumference is bound to! Our crew expertly used a boom lift to get access to all areas of the tank safely.

The Final Product

The tank is covered with brand new durable and compliant coating right before the weather changes for the worse, and the crew is headed back to the station for some well-deserved rest. They will be ready for the next one!
