Bid to Project

With the start of every project for M J Painting Contractor Corp. comes the meticulous process of bidding. Whether it begins with an invite from a potential customer to visit the site in person or with an RFQ (request for quote) via email, our first task is to gather as much information as possible.
Drawings, plans, or even just pictures of the area give us the foundation to start calculating the quote.
Creating a Quote
Armed with all the details, our estimator, Rick, puts it all into our state-of-the-art estimating software to determine the square footage of the space, as well as the different types of pipe and materials used.
Then it’s off to Mike John Jr, the company’s Vice President of Operations, to analyze the total square footage and units as well as calculate the cost and values, including manpower and equipment needed.
“This is a complex and demanding process that will define the rest of the project,” says Mike John Jr., “we consider every option and ensure that the choices we make are both within the budget and fitting the site requirements.”

Using our expertise and over 50 years of experience, M J Painting chooses the best materials and the most cost-effective solutions for every bid we do.
All of those decisions cumulate into a comprehensive quote that gets sent to our customers for review and acceptance.

Planning for Success
Upon acceptance, the planning of the job begins. It is up to our talented project managers to turn a slew of information and timelines into a neatly organized project with a determined schedule, manpower, equipment, and any particular requirements the site might have.
The process is a balance between meeting our customers’ needs and ensuring our crews are set up for success, and M J Painting is proud to hold that balance with each of our projects. The schedule is then shared with the client, and the crew is brought onboard.
Preparing the Crew
Once the plan is ironed out, it’s meeting time: first, with the foreman, and then with the whole crew.
During this important preparation stage, the team reviews detailed drawings created by our estimator to understand the project specifications, including the size of the pipes and other components they will be working with. The plans are color-coded to indicate different pipe sizes – an important parameter since it affects material coverage.
Completing the Project
Set up for success, the crew then starts the work onsite. It is a complex process with many stages and demands; each update is communicated through field reporting software to our project managers. The same tool is available to our clients, who are always informed about the progress or any challenges to the project. Click here to see what an M J Painting job can look like!
After the project’s completion, our clients inspect the site to approve the application of coatings. Lastly, the project is closed out with coating inspection reports. Another job completed successfully!

“It is very important to us to receive feedback,” says Mike John Sr., the company’s President. “We are always ready to hear what worked and what can be improved upon. Building relationships with our clients is an integral part of our business, and we look forward to the end-of-project conversation every time.”
